BeastlyTitle : Beastly

Author: Alex Flinn

Genre: Young Adult, Fantasy, Romance, Fiction, Fairy Tale

Rating: 3 and half

Beastly is a novel written by Alex Flinn. It is a different touch on our old time favorite fairy tale, Beauty and the Beast. Who says beast can only be found in fairy tales? The setting happens in New York City with the main protagonist named Kyle Kingsbury. He’s a guy who has perfect looks, the fame, the money and anything you could think of but everything changes when he did something to the witch. He’s perfect life went upside down as he become a beast.

Seriously, I actually made a mistake reading the Beastly Lindy’s Diary first before the Beastly. I had some problems understanding the whole story of Beastly Lindy’s Diary since it was just a part of the main book which I only noticed after reading the whole of it.

Here’s the thing, Beastly is kind of a different twist on our classic fairy tale and one may not stop comparing the two of them but truthfully, the novel gives a little up-size on bringing it to the modern world with the use of other materials that added some appeal to the whole story. My only concern is that, I just found it a little bit on the stereotype mode since everything seems like to be plotted from the very beginning but despite of it, I still enjoyed the book and the characters.

Detailed Review:

  • Does the Title intrigue me or interests me

The title gives you an idea on what the story is all about so it’s kind of good.

  • Did I agree on some point of views on it?

Some. The transformation of Kyle to the new point of view of being a Beast is agreeable on some part. You can see the shift and difference as the story goes on.

  • Author’s style used in the book.

The spin off on our classical fairy tale was quite good but as what I had said, I found it on the stereotype mode where like everything seems to be plotted on the very beginning of it.

  • If the language or style used is convincing to define the character.

Sort of… You could feel or see who they really are. The storytelling of Kyle here is quite good and really defines him by the way he speaks and react to things.

  • If the characters were represented as what the story suggest.

I think so… Yes, they are.

  • If the ideas and concepts are clear.

Yes. Everything is laid in front of the reader.

  • Physical appearance of the book. (Cover, binding, layout format etc.)

It think the book cover is so creative! Love the rose stem that is formed by the letter “Y”.

  • If it successful in its goal or purpose of the story. (If it made me cry, laugh, inspired or the emotion that one should feel on the book

The story actually made me wonder because it’s kind of different from its modern touch. Seriously, I don’t know how to feel about the book. It lacks on this part since it doesn’t have much intense scenes and drama but still this book thought be different things so I guess it’s fine.

  • Favorite part of the story.

The chat group part was my favorite! It’s kind of funny and it gives a modern twist to the classic fairy tales.

  • What I don’t like from the story.

The lack of moments and scenes. The story was a little bit shallow.

  • Favorite Quote in the book.

“Just because something is beautiful doesn´t mean it´s good.”
Alex Flinn, Beastly

Of all the classic fairy tales, Beauty and the Beast is one of the tale I haven’t knew well. I read the story but I actually haven’t watched the whole film of it, so the novel Beastly made me quite hooked because of it. I am curious on how it will give a twist and touch. The whole idea of it was good but it lacks on some part but the book is still fun to read.

Beastly is actually a series but I just read the first and the Beastly Lindy’s Diary. Here are the other ones which are included in the series.

Crafty Friday: DIY Bookmark, Beastly Book and Movie Inspired

DIY’s are always fun to do especially when you wanted something to have your signature style on a specific thing you wanted to do. So last week, I finished the book Beastly by Alex Flinn and the movie adaptation of it with the same title so I decided to do a bookmark. (Book Review here) You could do your own bookmark to with just few materials.

Thing you will need:

Paper or Cardboard

Colored Paper (If you wanted)

Coloring Materials (If you wanted)

Washi Tapes

Prepare the paper or cardboard. Cut it according to any size you wanted in portrait. I used 6.2″ x 2.8″ on mine and the paper that I used is a Kraft paper.

IMG_20160901_234016 You could use washi tapes, colored paper, coloring materials or any other medium that you wanted to decorate your bookmark. I used washi tapes since it is more easier and faster to use plus it instantly gives color to the paper. I prefer taping it sideways since the effect of it is kind of cute for me. You could try any design, just mix and match it.

You could use stickers and other decals to add more design to your bookmark. Here, I used a rose since it is one of the main thing you could see on the Beastly. If you don’t have stickers, you could use magazines and cut the images that’s fit on your work.IMG_20160901_234251

Using marker, write your favorite quote from the book you wanted. (I actually used a calligraphy pen on this but I am still learning on how to use it so it ended up this way.)IMG_20160901_234341

Make a hole on the upper middle part of the bookmark and add yarn to it.

Just add some finishing touches and Viola! Your DIY Bookmark is done! Here’s my final product. What do you think?

You could try different sizes and shapes. Everything is up to you since it is your bookmark. You could do it for yourself or gave it to your friend. So what quote from a movie or book will you put on your bookmark? Let me know! Don’t afraid to comment!

Book Review: Me Before You by Jojo Moyes

818tMZ3aozL._SL1500_.jpgTitle: Me Before You

Author: Jojo Moyes

Genre: Fiction, Romance, Contemporary, Chic Lit, Realistic Fiction, Drama

Rating: 4 and half

Me Before You is the best-selling novel written by Jojo Moyes. Many were captivated by this heart warming and tear-jerking story of Louisa and Will that it got a film adaptation.

Louisa works in Buttered Bun tea shop but when Frank, Louisa’s employer, said that he will close the shop and was about to lose her job, she doesn’t know what to do. Added more to the thoughts on her mind is Lou’s relationship with her boyfriend Patrick.

Will was a man who lives in a life that is almost close to perfection-wealthy life, a job he wanted and a girlfriend. One accident changed his whole life that took away his desire to live.

When I heard that this novel will  get a film adaptation, I put in my mind that I should see the book first before the movie. I actually learned my lesson after watching The Paper Towns before the book. I just don’t want to get disappointed that it will not exceed my expectations and let the whole film go into my mind before my imagination. I don’t hate movies, sometimes I just want how my imaginations works when I am reading a book.

I am a sucker for tear-jerking stories so I gave it a shot and read this novel. This is not actually my usually cup of tea because I hated that the thought of the thin line between pity and love. I just hated that excuse which sometimes became the reason for the conflict of the two protagonists in a story.

The thing is that, there some pull in this story where you could fell in love with the characters-their pain, their laughters, their thoughts and actions. Lou and Will’s  character is not that hard to be loved.

I must say that this is one of my favorites because I felt a connection to it, not that I experienced this kind of hardship but you can feel the emotions in it just by reading it. As any reader and critic, I too has a lot of say about the story of Lou and Will. I do got curious why does Jojo Moyes  did it liked that but I am only a reader that’s why all I have to do is to find what’s the real message about it because it’s a sensitive topic. Others might thing it’s inspiring but others may not. Each and every one is entitled to have our own opinion and thoughts about this topic because we have different level of understanding in a way where it will lead us. This is one of the most intriguing and sensitive theme novel that I am sure that others find it hard too to accept the ending of it-a mix of love, pain and acceptance.

Detailed Review:

  • Does the Title intrigue me or interests me

Not much. I don’t say that it not that good but it’s not quite that appealing. I don’t judge a novel by its title, it’s an added points for me like it’s more interesting to read if the title was a little bit striking and intriguing.

  • Did I agree on some point of views on it?

Some and some were not. I know! I always wonder why, why and why? At the end of the book, my mind was lost of the whole thought. Is it not worth it? That’s what i always asked to myself.

  • Author’s style used in the book.

The point of view is of Louisa that it made me hard to feel what Will’s true actions mean. I am actually looking forward for more about Will but I didn’t get as much as I wanted to be.

  • If the language or style used is convincing to define the character.

Somewhat. It do define Lou and Will as what it should be. Like you can see in your mind that Will is a man who loves adventure and not a life that’s not what he was used to… and other things about Louisa and Will that made an impression to me but as what I said some thoughts of Will were not that visible with a single sided point of view.

  • If the characters were represented as what the story suggest.

Yes. They are what they suggested. Lou, Will, Will’s parents and other more characters in the novel. I just kind of don’t understand Will’s sister that much.

  • If the ideas and concepts are clear.

I don’t know about this part since it’s a sensitive topic. It’s up to the readers if they will see it as a positive one or not… For me, it’s really up to us if we find the ideas clear and I do have my opinion about it that some thoughts were clear but maybe I need a  little more closure about Will’s point of view.

  • Physical appearance of the book. (Cover, binding, layout format etc.)

There are different versions of it. (The red one and the picture above) I don’t know, its simplicity is good but not that quite appealing maybe that’s why the cover was changed. I don’t judge the book but it an added point too if we are talking about total package.

  • If it successful in its goal or purpose of the story. (If it made me cry, laugh, inspired or the emotion that one should feel on the book )

Tear-jerker novel! Yes, it made me cry but not that much, there’s not much enough scenes where they have pour much emotions about them. They do lack emotion and moments, that’s what I think. I actually questioned myself if I should cry or feel good about the epilogue that it stops my tears from falling. About the goal? It’s not actually clear, if it means giving up or acceptance but I picked acceptance will be the most appropriate for it.

I did read a lot of reviews about this book and others find it great and others do not. It’s really up to the reader if he/she will view it in a way she liked it or the way the book was. For me, I liked this book a lot and if a book gave me a connection, it’s successful to me. Somewhat I really do find it hard to chew the ending but over all this is a must read novel.

Book Review: Never Never by Colleen Hover and Tarryn Fisher

Never-Never-Colleen-Hoover Title: Never Never Series

Author: Collen Hoover and Tarryn Fisher

Genre: Romance, Young Adult, New Adult, Contemporary, Paranormal, Mystery, Fiction, Fantasy, Suspense

Rating: 3 star

Never Never is written by Colleen Hover and Tarryn Fisher. It is a young adult, contemporary and mystery novel focused on Silas and Charlie.

I liked the whole pace of the story because it is not slow. Every detail or chapter leads to something. I liked how the mystery vibe of it that made me want to read it more and find out what really happened to them.

As any other book it also made me think of its title like if there was something hidden meaning to it like the other books. It’s a good thing that it made me curious why it was entitled liked that.

Some stuffs about the book made me a little bit disappointed but it was a good book though.

Never-Never-Colleen-HooverTitle: Never Never (Part 1)

Rating: 4 star

Best friends since they could walk.
In love since the age of fourteen.

Complete strangers since this morning.

He’ll do anything to remember.
She’ll do anything to forget.

I am completely hooked because, “Hello? The story starts up with the mystery vibe even it is just the first chapter.” I like the vibe and stuffs like I am solving something just by reading the book. I was also got curious about the title why it was like that so I continued to read it. I would had lied if I say that I didn’t love it. I love the first part because it was just the opening of the whole mystery thing going on about Silas and Charlie.

The ending of the first part gives me a little hope that it will be something which is a good thing because it left you curious for all the revelation that was found out along the whole story.

Title: Never Never (Part 2)

Rating: 3 star

“Never forget that I was your first real kiss. Never forget that you’ll be my last.
And never stop loving me between all of them.
Never stop, Charlie.
Never forget.”

This is the start when some clues were found out on how did they became like that. I liked how I found out what Never Never means. I like the vibe on their journal and letters. They were in H.S but you can still feel some love from them. Well, that’s how it works right? You loved a book if you found a connection to it.

The whole Part 2 actually focuses more on Silas which means all his views and feelings were visible that you got more of him because of it. The love and care that he shows even the situation from the Part two is like that.

Some parts also made them like selfish persons and somewhat I don’t like some truths that they found out along the way.

Never-Never-Part-Three-by-Colleen-HooverTitle: Never Never (Part 3)

Rating: 2 stars

“Fate is the magnetic pull of our souls toward the people, places, and things we belong with.”

The last part of the book and this is when the story ends. Most of the truths about them were unfolded already. So it was like they were making progress about the whole thing.

The whole act and Silas theory was a little bit shallow that it made me a little bit disappointed on how did the ending goes like that.

Detailed Review:

  • Does the Title intrigue me or interests me?

Super! It is really interesting and I found myself searching for clues as I am reading and finding out why it was entitled like that. Well, after finding out the meaning about it, it was interesting and it didn’t fail to impress me.

  • Did I agree on some point of views on it?

I guess I’ll say it’s 50-50. There are some points that I agree like trusting the present than the past but there are some things that I didn’t agree like the views of Silas about Charlie when she changes and said that he cannot love the new her.

  • Author’s style used in the book.

Opening with a lot of mystery going on is a good thing that it made the readers more curious about the entire story however some points were just left and forgotten.

  • If the language or style used is convincing to define the character.

It was in point of view of both Silas and Charlie which made it more easier to know their feelings and emotions. It’s helpful in that way.

  • If the characters were represented as what the story suggest.

You could picture Silas as epitome of male because he is caring, gentleman, lovable and other more traits you could fall in love with but the one thing that I hated about him is the part when he said to Charlie that he couldn’t love the new her, the personality she is showing or something like that. I know it’s only a book but DON’T HATE ME. It just it ruined everything. Some traits and actions doesn’t fit together.

  • If the ideas and concepts are clear.

The book fails in this criteria. After reading the series, I was like “what?”. There are so many things that were not justified and explained clearly. It felt like the mystery is just a mystery, there’s no answer for every question it gave to the readers. So many holes and the ending was kind of depressing.

  • Physical appearance of the book. (Cover, binding, layout format etc.)

The cover is great but I don’t see much connection of it to the story. I thought it was something to do with water or the flower but it was not.

  • If it successful in its goal or purpose of the story. (If it made me cry, laugh, inspired or the emotion that one should feel on the book )

Somewhat it made me got curious and it made me fell in love with the characters but not that much.

When there was about only 20 pages left, I asked my self on how could it end in just few pages. There are still piles of answers that are needed to be justified. I was hoping for more but I guess that’s just how fate works. This is a H.S love story and most of the Colleen Hoover’s novel where much deeper… Maybe that’s why it got me disappointed.

I still love it though because there are still lessons that I got from it. As what my favorite quote from The Perks of Being a Wallflower, “Be a filter not a sponge.”, I still learned something from it. The power of love that could do anything and where the past is still a part of you but you could make it better on your present.

Shatter Me

The first chapter caught my attention and I liked it. I liked how the thoughts of Juliette are expressed. The fear, the love, the hatred and her agony can be easily felt. I liked the characters too, they possess different traits and personality.

RATING for Shatter Me:

5 stars

5/5 stars

Unravel Me

The story of Juliette continuous and I liked how the flow of the story has gone wide. The use of different setting and a number of more characters. I really thought that it was just a simple reestablishment-change-the-world but it’s not.  What more is that, I cannot predict what will happen next, which is a good thing, because everything in this story is so unpredictable? I love the twists and how shocking the revelations could be.

RATING for Unravel Me :

5 stars

5/5 stars

Ignite Me

The last book of the series of the Shatter Me. I couldn’t say that I liked a lot but somewhat it lacks a little bit of more information. I felt like, “Is that all? Huh. Bang! And it ends like that.” I liked the flow of the story and all of it. I liked the expression of Warner and the other characters. I liked how well they did everything… It just lack on the other part of how facts in the story should be made but all in all, I liked it.

RATING for Ignite Me:

4 stars

4/5 stars

Favorite Quote/Lines:

Shatter Me

“Rain drops are my only reminder that clouds have a heartbeat… That I have one too.”

“This planet is a broken bone that didn’t set right, a hundred pieces of crystal that glued together.”

“Things are changing, but this time I’m not afraid. This time I know who I am.”

Unravel Me

“The truth is painful reminder of why I prefer to live among lies.”-Warner

“I am beginning to think of hope as a dangerous, terrifying thing.”

“Torture is not torture when there’s any hope of relief”

“Love is a heartless bastard. I am driving myself insane.”

May contain SPOILERS so read at your own risk.

Sometimes I do forgot to breathe and find myself gasping for air because I am too much hooked and attached to the whole story. Sadness, agony and hopelessness… I don’t know but you can feel every pain like it’s piercing you to the bone. Juliette, Adam and Warner… Three different people but you’ll know that there’s a reason for everything they did.

I actually pictured it like X-men and mutants because of the powers and the gifts. It is also amazing that it’s not just a teeny weeny love story that a girl fell for a boy and the boy liked her then the end. It is not a usual cup of coffee but this story is so intriguing. Intriguing to the point that I finished the first book for a day and craving for more.

So at first I really find it weird that I don’t like Adam much but as the flow of story continuous, I found out why. I liked Warner a lot because he’s sweet and selfish- selfish only for his love. I do understand the two of them after reading the two mini books of it- FRACTURE ME and DESTROY ME. Reading the two books let me know what they truly feel and what they really stand for.

I am also not a fan of side characters but this book changed it! Oh! Kenji? Who will not wish for him to come true and be here in the real world? I really liked his character a lot.

The whole Shatter Me Series is a wrap but I was quite disappointed with the ending. Commander is dead then end of story? Don’t they have underlings? Like ex-commander and etc.? That made me wonder if they truly succeed. But all in all, I liked this Series.

Book Review: Every Day by David Levithan

Title: Every Day

Author: David Levithan

Genre: Young Adult, Contemporary, Romance, Fantasy, Fiction, Glbt

Rating: 5 star

Every Day is a Young Adult novel written by David Levithan that focuses on A’s life who wakes every morning in a different body. It could be anyone and there is no warning at all on which body A will be in. A’s every day life is set by rules like never get too attached and just live as what the body A’s got should do. These changes when A wakes up in the body of Justin and meet Justin’s girlfriend, Rhiannon.

My verdict on this novel is that it is a superb story. Just by reading the synopsis, you could get the idea of it and you’ll find yourself craving for more. The whole idea is amazing. Every day a different body and every day a different life, it is really a great idea that the author come up with this kind of story. I was amazed on the plot of the story. I also liked the details on A’s personality and some facts about him.

The story really intrigue me. “A” is an unidentified soul or something like that is moving from different body every day. Isn’t it sad? That’s the first thing that came into my mind. I don’t know if it just me but I do feel A’s pain and every emotion A has. The whole book is amazing. I like the part when A moves from different body to another, it feels like you’re in someone life to another one.

The ending? Well, I liked it that way. That’s the most appropriate ending for the story and I liked it. Seeing the whole story ended up like that gave ease to me for what A’s life should be. I liked this story a lot and highly recommended for those who wants a different kind of fiction story.

Detailed Review:

  • Does the Title intrigue me or interests me?

Yes. It intrigues me and it interests me on what story A’s got inside.

  • Did I agree on some point of views on it?

Somewhat I do agree about their decisions and acts about the state A and Rhiannon are in.

  • Author’s style used in the book.

This book has the point of view of A which is I guess better because we got to know more about A and A’s experiences.

  • If the language or style used is convincing to define the character.

Yes, David Levithan nailed it. I felt like just by reading the whole book, I know A a lot more and the feelings A got can be felt just by reading some of A’s thoughts.

“A sensation that can only come from the euphoric of feelings: Belonging.”

  • If the characters were represented as what the story suggest.

Yes, they act as what they should.

  • If the ideas and concepts are clear

80% were clear but 20% of it is not. Some from the last chapters of it where A’s mind is on battle on whether A’s going for it or not.

  • Physical appearance of the book. (Cover, binding, layout format etc.)

The cover is good. The elements of soul or body that is floating made it more clear that the story is all about that.

  • If it successful in its goal or purpose of the story. (If it made me cry, laugh, inspired or the emotion that one should feel on the book )

Absolutely! It made me feel sad, in love and other more emotions that the book suggests.

These are the other books that is included in the series. I haven’t read it yet because I don’t know, I liked that ending on the book 1. Another Day is just in point of view of Rhiannon, a different perspective of the Book 1. Well, maybe that’s why I don’t have much interests about it and heard some reviews on Goodreads that it wasn’t that good because it was just retelling the whole story. While the Six Earlier Days focuses on A’s life before the time setting of Ever Day.

snapped from Goodreads

Over all, this novel leaves a hundred questions on my mind and it really do impressed me.

Review: That Twisted Love Story by Pilosopotasya

Title: That Twisted Love Story

Writer/Author: Pilosopotasya

Genre: Fantasy, Death, Life, Love, Tragic

Status: Completed

“If you ever thought that you already have that perfect love story you’ve always dreamed of, think again. Everything in this world is not what it seems to be. Everything’s twisted-including your story.”

A work of Pilosopotasya. A story that is worth reading for.

Warning: The following paragraphs contain spoilers.

I’m really fond of tragic stories. I didn’t expect it at first that it was a tragic story. I thought it was just a typical old story, the part of Lyle and Ces, and I was wrong. It was a twisted story. So much drama in every chapter that you will say “No! Wag sanang matapos to.” But how much amazing every plot is, every story needs to come to an end and it was really depressing. Depressing in a good way I guess.

If you have already read “The Perks of Being a Wallflower” by Stephen Chbosky maybe you are familiar with this quote:

“Try to be a filter, not a sponge.”

What do I mean by quoting this? I was amaze on how you write the story. Every author wrote a story for a purpose. A purpose to make them laugh, cry and so on… Some of your readers maybe cried or hated you for making the ending like that… But your story was different. Maybe some readers hated it but for some readers it was a really great ending. It was what reality is, the reality that a single decision can change one’s life. Just like what have happened to Ces… Her decision made her to lead into that tragic ending. She regretted it but it was too late, too late to realise her stupid mistake.

This story made me realise that we should think twice before making a decision. Think the possible consequences first or else we could live in regrets.

I remember what Boss said during the last chapters. He said, “Ang mga tao talaga ang daling maniwala.” And that made me say, “Ay. Oo nga.” This is people’s nature. We are blinded on things and forgot to look them closely.

People are like sponges. They absorb and absorb anything. People should be more like a filter. Be a filter and understand every detail.

This story shows human nature. Selfless, Selfishness, Love, Pain, Anger, Revenge and other more emotion that really moved our heart.

I was amaze on how Pilosopotasya wrote this. This was not just a typical old love story. It was as twisted love story.

During the first few chapters you would say that, “Ang cliché nito.” Why? The Casanova who fell in love with a Nerd and The Nerd transformation will make you think that this story was a typical love story but as the chapters go on you will felt the heaviness of the story.

It’s not just the boy dumped him and a prince came to save her then she moved on and so on… The story goes more on SACRIFICING; Ces sacrificed and made a deal with Boss.

That was actually surprising from a super cliché story to a deeper one.

What I like from the story:

~ The Characters really represent people’s nature

Ash- Selfishness

Boss- Playful and No Mercy

Ces- Impulsive decisions, Selfless and Regret

Erich – Jealousy and the Antagonist

Keng- Being true to her self

Lily- Love for her brother

Lyle- Selfishness

Lyric- Love and

Marky- Early Pregnancy

Melo- Brother Romance

Note- Happy go lucky

Pitch- Serious Type

~ The story behind every character.

The story behind Manager Lily, Pitch, Lyric, Note, Melo, Ash and other characters were well made.

Pilosopotasya gave us a break on the heavy chapters. The true name of the members of MyuSick, The corny jokes of Note and last but not the least the funny tweets of @ulaaann (Pilosopotasya). Haha

~ There is a lesson you could get in the story.

Learn from your mistakes.

Think twice before you made a decision.

And other more lessons you will get in the story of Ces and other characters.

~ The Facts Pilosopotasya made

The D-Get, The Contract, How Boss manipulate and other more terms were sugoi!

~ The use of music to lighten up the mood of the story.

I thought at first that Note, Lyric, Pitch and Melo were underlings of Boss. Since at first part of the story they always appears when Ces was in trouble.

On the last part of the story as the mysteries unfold… It was said that memories of Ces was erased but not from Lyric, right? But is the memory of Ces from Manager Lily got erased too?
